Stop by on June 9th for a tasting of some of the best wines from Willamette Valley produced by Grochau Cellars. This winery was founded in 2002 as a project of John Grochau and his wife, Kerri. After more than 13 years working as a sommelier in Portland, John made the leap into winemaking, first at Oregon pioneer Erath and then as Doug Tunnell's assistant for four years at the esteemed Brick House Wines.
We have been big fans of these wines because Grochau Cellars has the ability to create wines true to their terroir, using minimal intervention and manipulation during the winemaking process. Grochau also is very particular when seeking out vineyards and only chooses those that are solely dedicated to non-interventionist farming techniques (organic when possible, sustainably focused and environmentally sensitive). The husband and wife team works very closely with the growers so that their fruit sources can become the best wines possible. In the cellar, John's philosophy is pretty simple, "Don't screw it up. Resist the urge to do too much." On this evening, we will be showcasing six wines from this great estate, and John himself will be explaining his own history, philosophy and inspirations.
