Alamo Drafthouse Houston says
Don Coscarelli's comedy-horror finds an elderly Elvis wasting away in a nursing home, his one companion being Jack who has delusions that he is JFK. As it turns out, Elvis had swapped identities with a doppelganger at the height of his fame, and failed to reclaim the thrown of the King when the impersonator died . Embittered by this, Elvis is soon rejuvenated when he and Jack set forth to battle an evil mummy that is feeding on the other residents. The mummy, in full cowboy garb, finds easy prey in the elderly as they struggle to get around with wheelchairs and walkers. Elvis, having peered into the dead eyes of the evil being, catches a magical flashback glimpse of its life during ancient Egyptian times, and dubs him Bubba Ho-Tep. Devising a plan to obliterate the mummy and thus free the spirits of the dead, Elvis and Jack wait in the night armed with a flamethrower. Full of demented fun, BUBBA HO-TEP has that Coscarelli touch of sublime outrageousness.
