Opening Reception: Friday, August 7, 2015
August 7 – September 4, 2015

Samara Gallery is pleased to present Misinformation is Ammunition, a group exhibition of works by Janavi Folmsbee, Erick Sandlin, and Aron Williams. In this new body of individual and collaborative works, three Houston artists come together to address the concept and effects of misinformation in our modern world. Many outlets for media and information are manipulated or subject to some form of bias. Misinformation is Ammunition holds a mirror to these issues or ideas and states that there are consequences, whether they are positive or negative.

Aron Williams’ work explores the idea that our information is being manipulated on many levels and often, through either ignorance or apathy, we are at times blinded to that fact. Each piece shows the minimization or marginalization of the truth through disinformation. Each work contains truth and perceived misinformation.

Janavi Folmsbee’s has looked at the vast network that we find ourselves surrounded by through technological devices. Folmsbee’s work is driven by the power we hold through social media and other visual networks that exist in natural form. Folmsbee calls the viewer to play with their freedom to create and disseminate information.

Erick Sandlin’s work explores the omnipresence that the media has taken in society and how that can be a force for advancement, but also a force for destruction and distraction.

Aron Williams was born in North Richland Hills, Texas, and received his BFA in painting from Texas State University.
Janavi Folmsbee was born in Mumbai, India, and in 2005 moved to the U.S. to study at the Art Institute of Chicago. She currently lives and works in Houston.
Erick Sandlin is a self-taught artist, who work exclusively with spray paint. He lives in the Heights in Houston, Texas, by way of Texarkana, College Station, Waco, and Austin.
