Mendelssohn: The Hebrides
Bruch: Scottish Fantasy
Brahms: Symphony No. 1

In this program, the Houston Symphony plays two works depicting the misty islands and highlands of Scotland. Inspired by a visit to Fingal’s Cave, Mendelssohn’s The Hebrides evokes the waves of the sea that surround this geological wonder. Praised for his “sparkling clean, airy tone” (The Washington Post) and “subtlety, his sense of how to shape the line dramatically” (The New York Times), violinist Paul Huang performs Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy, a virtuoso showpiece featuring many famous Scottish folk melodies. The program concludes with a true cornerstone of the repertoire, Brahms’ heroic Symphony No. 1.

This is a ticketed event for the covered seating area. Free tickets are available (4 per person over age 16 while they last) at the Miller Outdoor Theatre box office the day of the performance between the hours of 10:30am-1pm. If tickets remain at 1pm, the box office will re-open one hour before show time to distribute the remaining tickets. As always, open seating on the hill.
