In 2005, Istanbul’s club scene was turned on its head overnight by the emergence of Portecho, an electronica act whose riveting live presence, driving beats and skinny ties defined a new, unprecedented performance paradigm as they played to packed venues across Turkey, Europe and the United States. In their new release, ‘Motherboy’, Portecho make a quantum leap forward, taking all their idiosyncratic elements into deeper, more organic reaches. All the synthesizers used are analogue, and played live. This time around, the grooves have a much funkier and more retro quality.
