Time Out says

Translated as ‘Movement, Form, Torch and Statement’, ‘Gerak Rupa Ubur Penyataan’ (GRUP) was an exhibition held in KL in 1967. The exhibition – which featured now legendary artists Anthony Lau, Cheong Laiton, Ibrahim Hussein, Jolly Koh, Latiff Mohidin, Syed Ahmad Jamal and Yeoh Jin Leong – was said to be a watershed moment in Malaysian art history. These artists are now recognised as pioneers of modern art in the country. The exhibition in the gallery will showcase key artworks by the seven GRUP artists and explore the conditions which allowed and facilitated the growth of modern art in Malaysia.
