KL has achieved a new level of freeze now that Tong Pak Fu, a dessert shop from Hong Kong, has landed with a smorgasbord of shaved ice variety. Ice blocks – made from 100 per cent pure fruit juice – are shaved to a fluffy texture, and slowly twirl under a shower of grass jelly, red bean and fruits. The ice flavours can be as simple as chocolate, coffee or Milo but the outlandish ones pack a fruity tang like D24 durian and guava. Traditional hot desserts such as red bean cream, glutinous rice balls and sweet potato soup are on the menu as well but the tau fu fa with chilled mango should not be missed.
