Sakun Silver & Silk

This store had its beginnings in Plaza Ampang, but has called Bukit Bintang home for the last four years. It’s the brainchild of Thai owner, Sakuntla Manothara, who has lived in Malaysia since the seventies and the store stocks a fantastic range of Thai silk fabrics.

All textiles are handmade at cottage factories in Thailand and the store carries a whopping total of over 300 different choices. Most unusual are the flower-printed ones. Prices range from RM48-RM98 per metre of cloth.

It’s also a good place to get gift items. Choices include affordably priced hand-woven silk shawls, cushion covers, and an exquisite selection of silver jewellery. The latter is sourced from Malaysia’s East coast state of Kelantan and also Thailand. Prices start at RM30 (earrings) and jewellery sets begin at RM400. Recommended is the vintage-inspired jewellery with marcasite.
