Fruits and Nanyang Cultural Space

Architectural and urban historian Lai Chee Kien examines a crucial site that provided space for the experimentation and formation of hybrid identities in turn-of-the-20th-century Singapore - the Han Rambutan Orchard. The talk will be followed by a book launch of Oh Yong Hwee's graphic novel 'Garden of Foolish Indulgences' illustrated by Koh Hong Teng, based on Lai Chee Kien's 2011 academic essay 'Rambutans in the Picture: Han Wai Toon and Overseas Chinese Space in Singapore'.
