This Islington backstreet is a notch above most of its N1 competitors.

First, the beers: Peroni, Sierra Nevada, Leffe, Früli, Schneider Weisse, Paulaner, Pilsner Urquell and Staropramen, all on draught, complemented by tap ales such as Landlord and Doom Bar.

Second, the wines: 20 in number, all but a couple available by both bottle and glass.

There’s also the pub food, affordable and good enough.

Inside, high ceilings tower over etched mirrors and abundant greenery; there are a couple of outdoor tables too. Even when it’s busy, the height of the rooms means acoustics that allow easy conversation. But the Island Queen’s main asset is that it has personality in spades: it’s a proper pub for people who want a proper drink.

A great pub ruined by its staff. They are very rude and aggressive. was there not long ago for drinks with friends. Last orders were called and the staff promptly went round snatching drinks out of peoples have and screaming at them to get out - It was honestly unbelievable.

Unbelievably rude and offensive bar star, never been treated so badly. Will never be returning. Shame I couldn't give no stars

Have just returned from an evening here bitterly disappointed and annoyed due to the attitude of the staff. I arrived for a casual dinner with a friend and put my card behind the bar to open a tab. The food was poor, my pie was burnt, however the rices are very reasonable and as we were seeking a nice atmosphere and conversation it seemed irrelevant. We had a few more drinks but at 11pm last orders were given - fair enough. The staff continued to shout aggressively at customers to leave the bar so my friend and I felt pressured to leave even though our drinks, ordered before last orders were not finished. When we went to settle the bill, promptly, it transpired that the staff had decided to charge my card without consultation at 22.48. When I stated I was unhappy that they had charged without my consultation, the barman stated he didn't feel it was his job to know where his customers were seated, even if they have a tab, or to ask their permission to "verify with signature" on the customer's card. The bill was inaccurate but similar to the value that we expected and at this point it seemed redundant to discuss further as the bar staff were clearly dismissive - he in fact walked off rolling his eyes and waving his hand in the air. It clearly states on the website that this bar is open until midnight on Sundays. Again barman ignored my comments. I was made to feel embarrassed and angry on what was supposed to be a relaxing evening, I think this venue provides no customer service and in fact bullies its customers.

I would have given this place a 5 star rating, however recently they have changed their food menu and its been really disappointing (but is saving me money as I no longer eat here!) they used to do deals such as a burger and a drink for £10, or wednesdays buy one main get one free, however they no longer do these deals and so I only come here for drinks.

This place is really close to my work and I go here regularly - but its not the closest pub to my work - its just the better one! The staff are really nice too, they are very fun and relaxed, but I could imagine certain people not liking them as they are very laid back.

Overall really nice pub for a beer after work.

I went here for a bank holiday Sunday pub session and really liked it. Lovely cosy atmosphere and plenty of space so we were able to get a table without booking.

I like the location too, just far enough away from the main high street to have a neighbourhood feel.

I've read the other reviews about the bad service but I never experienced that here. However I don't particularly remember anyone being overly friendly either, which is what I tend to look for in places I go to regularly.

A good local boozer nestled in the back streets of Angel.  The pub itself is very quaint designed around the central bar, there are board games, a decent selection of beers, and a weekly pub quiz.  I recently went on a Sunday for the roast -  it's pitched in the middle price wise, the dishes are modest portions but there is the added bonus of a mixed roast.  Overall, a sound choice for an after work beer off the high street.

What a brilliant find! Lovely small little bar away from the bustle of Angel..quite close to the Canal so even the walk to and back from Angel is a wonderful experience..Lovely atmosphere, decor and very friendly staff. Since first going about a month back I have been twice more..big shout but in my opinion its the best Sunday lunch in London- Testament to my fondness for it..

Classic London local. Quiet Islington street. Handsome, airy bar. South-facing pavement with a few sunny benches and seats. Eyewatering prices - but that's standard for this neck of the woods. Nice place for a sundowner.

Really solid local. A good spot to meet with mates and plenty of nooks for groups to sit together.

The food was good and a decent selection of drinks on offer - the real draw of this place is the decor and atmosphere, wood paneled walls and etched mirrors give it a traditional feel, busy but not overcrowded. I would definitely recommend for a Sunday roast and couple of pints.

Great food, great drinks, great pub!! I had the best slow cooked beef the other night, SO GOOD! I especially liked the young athletic looking Aussie behind the bar, Dean I think his name was. His cute toosh made the food and drink that much better. THANKS =D
