Visit in the summer to take advantage of one of the city’s best beer gardens, or sip cask ales and original cocktails over a quality pub dinner

Bitters ’n’ Twisted is a Birmingham company that has the formula for a successful bar locked down. It’s behind the likes of Bodega and Island Bar, and it recently landed another success with The New Inn.

Harborne – an area that’s becoming a hot-spot for fancy pubs, with The Plough and The Junction also close by – is the setting for this bar-pub-restaurant,

Housed in a 200-year-old building, The New Inn updates the mood with copper tables, zany wallpaper and quirky china ornaments. It also boasts one of Birmingham’s best beer gardens, with a vast lawn dotted with picnic tables and an outdoor bar for the summer months.

Drinks are a mixture of local cask ales and original cocktails. Make sure you try a Lemon Bon Bon (£6) – who knew butterscotch schnapps, limoncello and Absolut Vanilla vodka made for the perfect ménage à trois?

The pub grub at The New Inn is also worth a punt, with some cracking British beef on offer. The 35-day dry-aged longhorn burger (£9.50) is as close to perfection as any pub burger can be.
