Johnny Depp, Kevin Spacey and Bill Clinton are among the celebrities to have dined at Scott’s in Mayfair over the years. But now, it’s been revealed, the swanky Mount Street restaurant – one of London’s oldest – has had some less welcome visitors. Newspapers at the weekend reported that Westminster Council had slashed the celebrated eatery’s food hygiene rating after inspectors were alleged to have discovered ‘significant mice activity’ throughout the restaurant and in the kitchen.

The findings of the visit conducted in February also deemed Scott’s to be in need of ‘major improvement’ in its food safety implementation, although food handling and preparation were said to be ‘generally satisfactory’.

The restaurant responded by saying it had dealt immediately with the issues identified in the inspection. Scott’s has been closed since April 18 and is set to reopen tonight, following a kitchen revamp that is said to be unrelated to Westminster Council’s inspection. Scott’s is reportedly requesting a fresh inspection, with a spokesperson saying it is confident of regaining its five-star food-hygiene rating.
