Cabaret acts at Edinburgh Fringe 2012

Ben Walters previews another bumper year for cabaret at Edinburgh

What’s that rumbling? That’s right – the London cabaret caravan is hitching its trailer, filling its tank with sequins and gin and striking north for Edinburgh. Last year was a watershed, with the launch of a dedicated Cabaret section in the official Fringe programme; this year will be one of consolidation, with more shows, more crossover with other sections and more visibility, thanks to growing interest from the BBC and others. There will be firsts too: 2012 sees the launch of the Time Out & Soho Theatre Edinburgh Cabaret Award (aka TO&ST), recognising outstanding cabaret work at the Fringe. But to the crux of the matter: what to see? Here’s what’s getting our juices flowing…
