Sarah-Louise Young

The character chanteuse

With embittered chanteuse La Poule Plombée and bighearted C&W trollop Sammy Mavis Jr among her well-turned comic guises, Young is a model of polished musical storytelling. Edinburgh loves her. So do we.

What’s the most extreme thing you’ve done on stage? ‘A man slapped me on the bottom as La Poule Plombée and I did grab him by the scruff of the neck and hold the knife to his neck. Now, I knew I wasn’t going to kill him or hurt him, but he didn’t…’

By the end of 2011 I will have… ‘Made my New York and Berlin debuts, my Radio 4 debut, my solo UK tour debut and hopefully still be playing and working with the people I love playing and working with.’
