Making a welcome return to the Edinburgh Fringe for the first time since 2001, legendary American comedian Emo Philips answers our Ten Big Questions.

Your show, no more than thirty words, go!
Go? But I thought you wanted me to stay here and answer the… oh! Of course! Sorry. I get it now. So anyway… how many words did you say I…

What's your favourite Edinburgh related story?

Who or what makes you laugh?
Although I consider myself a good person, I always laugh at those candid YouTube videos of people getting hurt (which is my best explanation for why a loving God allows suffering).

What's the best/worst thing about being a comedian?
Best: Morning TV interviews. Worst: When people don't know you're being sarcastic.

What gets you in the mood to be funny?
That's like asking a fish what gets it into the mood to swim, or a bird, to fly: I have worms.

What's your favourite children's joke?
Here's one our teacher told us: "If there's a nuclear attack… get under your desk!"

What's the most memorable heckle you've ever received?
Once a drunk woman hurled an ashtray at me. I countered, "I bet you throw your ash at all the guys."

What subject wouldn't you make a joke about?
Dermatitis. Wait: scratch that…

What's your biggest fear?
Being buried alive in a coffin with the severed but still-talking head of Dick Cheney.

Complete this sentence: 'A man walks into a bar…'
…and says to the waitress, "See this sore on my lip? You gave it to me last night when we kissed." She says, "Put something on it." He says, "Okay… ten bucks says it was you."

'Emo Philips - Please Wintness My Act' is at the Edinburgh Fringe, Pleasance Courtyard, Cabaret Bar at 20:00.
