Beach Red

Wilde's neglected WWII movie is an allegory about the futility and the carnage of Vietnam. Set in the Pacific, it details a probably suicidal mission to take a Japanese-held island. The movie is massively and harrowingly brutal, almost like a horror movie, with severed limbs washing up on the beach. Although Wilde deals exclusively in pacifist clichés, the film has a genuine primitive power; in fact, it's the equal of anything made by Fuller.

Had to stop this movie halfway through-what the hell was I watching?!? Expecting your usual Hollywood war flick this thing is way, way ahead of its time;cheesy footage aside. Its like the first time I watched Blue Velvet. WTF! Extremely underrated
