Time Out says

Funny Girl becomes Funny Lady as Streisand completes the tragi-comic tale of Fanny Brice in a curate's egg of a musical blockbuster. The opening is good, with Streisand taking off Brice again with astounding ease and the plausible Billy Rose soon established by Caan. But the inexorable slide into stodge begins early with merely efficient numbers, and the unspeakable flash-forward at the end brings it flatulently to earth. Ben Vereen goes some in 'Clap Hands, Here Comes Charley'; while Streisand and the dancers doing 'Great Day' is one for the anthologies. The lady can still turn a one-liner with sweet malevolence - 'when you're a star, everything you do is magic' as she falls over in the wardrobe - but she can't save a galumpher any more than she could save the (far worse) Hello Dolly. Neither can the glowing cinematography of James Wong Howe.
