Time Out says

3 out of 5 stars

A fair-to-middling contemporary fantasy drama that, despite its surfeit of flashy effects, is mildly charming in the way it addresses the injustice of old folk having to live out their final years in decrepit homes. Christopher Plummer plays former gaffer Flash Madden, an old coot who once worked on ‘Citizen Kane’.

Flash now shuffles between a local cinema and his home, a residence for film industry retirees. Enter Michael Angarano’s Cameron, a rebellious film-obssessed college kid who struggles against his classmates in a filmmaking competition. Cameron and Flash’s worlds collide and, well, you can see where it’s heading. M Emmet Walsh gives a touching turn as Cameron’s screenwriter, but this is Plummer’s film; he chews the scenery with such gusto you miss him when he’s off screen.
