Monroe’s agent scored a blinder by campaigning for her casting in the Bette Davis classic about an ageing Broadway star. Monroe played the small role of Miss Caswell, an empty-headed actress, and took 11 takes to nail a scene with Davis. (It’s said that when Davis snapped at her, the young starlet fled the set to throw up).
