Monroe’s first collaboration with genre-hopping Hollywood maestro Howard Hawks sees the blond bombshell in a meaty supporting role, an appetiser perhaps for the gourmet, diamond-studded main course that was ‘Gentlemen Prefer Blondes’ (1953). Cary Grant (with some ridiculous oversized specs) stars as a daffy scientist in search of a youth serum, while Monroe (his dizzy-headed typist) makes for an ample playmate when he’s out painting the town red.
