8. How to Marry a Millionaire (1953)

This comedy saw a trio of belles – Monroe, Betty Grable and Lauren Bacall – living in a penthouse used to lure millionaires. Of course, their true love matches were penniless young studs – or, at least, apparently so. While it was far from a masterpiece, its master stroke was putting Monroe in thick-framed glasses her near-sighted character refused to wear in front of men. Word is Nicole Kidman has bought the rights to a remake. Uh-oh...
