12. Bus Stop (1956)

Monroe plays a promiscuous saloon singer in this Ozarks-set, 1956 comedy-drama which many consider worth seeing solely for her performance. By this point in her career, there was no doubt that her impressive acting portfolio had far more substance that would necessarily have been expected from someone who had such easy access to the celebrity limelight, and her complex turn sees her shine as she’s kidnapped by Don Murray’s loutish cowboy.
