Time Out says

4 out of 5 stars
You can almost hear the gravelly trailer man voiceover: ‘In 2003, Mark Henderson was abducted along with seven other travellers by an armed wing of the Colombian resistance movement and held for 101 days in the Amazon jungle. Now, five years later, he’s going back...’ But what differentiates ‘My Kidnapper’ from a bad Chuck Norris movie is not only that it’s a documentary and all real, but that Henderson’s return to the scene of the crime has nothing to do with revenge, and everything to do with understanding, acceptance and closure. Following an extensive and bizarrely congenial email correspondence with one of his abductors, Henderson, along with three of his fellow captives, agreed to travel back to Colombia and meet two of them in person. The film not only charts this voyage, but looks back to present a riveting diary of their initial imprisonment. ‘My Kidnapper’ is a remarkable film, and it’s largely down to Henderson himself: an engaged, insightful and always inquisitive frontman, we’re with him every step of this brave, emotionally demanding journey.
