San Fernando porn hopefuls are people too in this actorcentric indie about Jane (Dree Hemingway), a blond waif in hot pants, who stumbles upon an old lady’s cache of rolled-up hundreds at the latter’s yard sale. After a vain attempt to return the money to crotchety Sadie (Besedka Johnson), guilt-ridden Jane returns to the house and invades the widow’s life, making an unlikely friend in the process. Shot in soft, washed-out tones, the movie toggles between two modes, one more honest than the other. The details of Jane’s tawdry, low-rent existence are well-rendered, from her vapid roommates (one installs a stripper pole in the living room) to a keen sense of drugged-out exploitation. Unfortunately, the film signals its more serious aspirations aggressively, via “thoughtful” synth drones and an italicized parental subtext. Dree Hemingway, daughter of Mariel, appears in a scene with some unnecessary nudity, but also impresses with her subtlety.
