Re-release of Robert Siodmak's 1946 noir thriller, based on the short story by Ernest Hemingway. Two hired killers enter a diner looking for their target, the Swede. One of the patrons overhears and rushes to warm the Swede but he seems consigned to his fate because, as he says, "I did something wrong... once". In a series of flashbacks, insurance investigator Jim Reardon, who must pay out on the Swede's death, learns about the life of the marked man and his dealings with a seductive femme fatale, Kitty Collins.
