Hunter is by turns charming, chilling and oddly sympathetic as the ambitious Baptist mother ruthlessly promoting her daughter's ill-fated campaign to become a high-school cheerleader. Flatly lit TV interview footage after the incident is intercut with dramatisations of the lead-up to Hunter's arrest and trial for solicitation to murder her daughter's rival.
