The Time Out film debate 2012 highlights

Your thoughts on films and filmgoing in 2012

In October, Time Out sponsored the Debate strand at the London Film Festival. We also took the opportunity to kickstart our own debate, to find out how our readers feel about the state of films and filmgoing in 2012. Here we take a close look at a few of the most interesting results.

Who should be the next James Bond?

A topical one, this, with ‘Skyfall’ wooing cinema audiences right now. That said, Daniel Craig has said he’s doing at least two more Bond movies, so it’ll be four or five years, we reckon, until the producers of the Bond films pick a new 007.

Clearly, there’s no consensus about who should be the next Bond, but it’s good to see that a decent percentage think it could be Idris Elba – the first black Bond. It’s worth remembering that before Craig was chosen in the run-up to 2006’s ‘Casino Royale’, loads of names (Clive Owen and Hugh Jackman included) were bandied about – just not Craig’s. So it’s best to expect a less-than-obvious choice to play the nation’s favourite spy.
