Set up by Singaporean fashion mogul Christina Ong (who also owns the Metropolitan), the Halkin marries Eastern charm, style and food with a central and quiet location in Knightsbridge. The rooms, all located off black curved, almost trompe l’oeil wooden corridors, are comfortable and full of Asian artefacts and clever gadgetry (a touch-screen bedside panel controls everything from the air-con to the ‘do not disturb’ sign on the door).
Bathrooms are well equipped and heavy on the marble, and come stocked with a range of products from Ong’s Shambhala spa. The Michelin-starred Basque restaurant Ametsa is on the ground floor.
