Ah, summer half-term. In theory it should be the easiest time to amuse the brood. The weather’s warmer and by this stage in the school year even the youngest kids know the drill: you get a week and grab all the fun you can. But sometimes the vibe can be less ‘harmonious household in matching PJs’ and more ‘fractious fam scowling over the cornflakes’.

Thankfully, the unofficial intergenerational peace-keeping force that is the LEGO brand has come to our aid to restore and invigorate familial bonds and is setting up camp at London Westfield in Shepherd's Bush from May 30 to June 5, 10am-6pm daily. To make the deal even sweeter, the residency will be a first-of-its-kind LEGO DOTS event.

Obviously, we know and love LEGO products, and kids love to express themselves. LEGO DOTS takes that into exciting new realms by introducing a generation to the ultimate space to express themselves creatively, with limitless imaginative options for art and play. LEGO DOTS starts with a base canvas, such as a message board, bracelet, or bag tag, and gives kids the creative freedom to bring what they love to life, any way they like. Then, by mixing colours, shapes and patterns, LEGO DOTS allows them to craft something totally individual, customisable and rebuildable, designed to be endlessly recreated and reimagined.

At Westfield, kids can immerse themselves in the whole DOTS experience, exploring the mini DOTS world and getting creative with different DOTS-based activities: for starters, everyone can be an artist, letting their imagination fly designing and personalising their own space on the giant message board to try LEGO DOTS for themselves.

Kids will enjoy exploring the vibrant bedroom display, which features the whole caboodle of LEGO DOTS products, and expressing themselves making masterpieces at the Creation Station. Each day, there’ll also be plenty of design inspo, screened courtesy of LEGO DOTS TV. You can also pre-book tickets for meet and greets with kids’ content creator favourites such as Elena & Clara and Amazing Arabella. Of course, there’s also a perfect ’gram moment – a giant cactus to take pics with – and you can share it using the hashtag #YouDotYou). Visitors will even be given a little treat to take home.

So that’s half-term woes sorted. Be prepared that you may have trouble dragging the kids away: before you can say ‘game over’ they’ll confidently be on to their next masterpiece. Who knows, they might be badgering you to send them back to school so they can proudly show their brilliant creations to their pals.
