Lovebox Sunday celebrates a decade of queer sounds and acts with a line-up that's bigger and better than ever.
Lovebox is back. 2012 marks the tenth anniversary of East London's boutique music festival, this year being held from June 15 to 17, and in amongst a nicely mixed bag of acts and events, Sunday's Out & Out Fierce, as the name suggests, is a full day of festivities aimed at London's gay community. The organisers promise 'an oasis of exhibitionism and creativity', with the very best in music, fashion, art, cabaret and club culture. And that's no idle boast. Here are some of the highlights.
Headlining the biggest stage is the mighty Grace Jones, who last stormed Lovebox in 2010. She'll be joined by disco legends Chic featuring Nile Rodgers and Sam Sparro, Crystal Fighters, The Rapture and Nick & Dove. Plus there'll be cabaret from some of London's finest queer performers, including tranny superstar Jonny Woo, opera sensation Le Gateau Chocolat, The Fabulous Russella, Bourgeois & Maurice and Ryan Styles. DJs include Jim Warboy and Feral aka MC Kinky, and to round off proceedings there'll be a mass voguing workshop led by Jonny Woo.
Dalston Superstore hosts the second stage, with live performances from Lana Del Rey, Patrick Wolf, Tyson, Chew Lips, Ronika, The Golden Filter and Saint Saviour. The Dalston Superstore Disco Tent, with DJs including Superstore guv'nor Dan Beaumont, The Lovely Jonjo, John Sizzle, A Man To Pet, DJ Squeaky and Rokk.
The Big Top
Two of East London's fiercest underground raves join forces for what promises to be one hell of a party. Expect plenty of gender bending and genre blending as Gutterslut and Trailer Trash come together under one roof. DJs include Per QX, Hannah Holland, Nic Fisher, Mikki Most, Pat Mahoney and Tiga. There will also be a rare London appearance by German techno legend DJ Hell, who'll be showcasing tracks from his new album 'Teufelswerk'.
This Is... Circus
Jodie Harsh's cutting-edge electro club goes live with performances from Mika, Dev, Scottee and burlesque star Immodesty Blaize. Resident DJ Kris Di Angelis is joined on stage by the KDA Orchestra, and there'll be music from Felix Da Housecat, Joshyou Are, Basso & Brooke and Jamie Ritchie. And don't miss a special live show from Ms Harsh herself.
Inspired by the music and all-inclusive ethos of the New York club scene during the '70s and '80s, the ever-popular NYC Downlow makes its only UK festival appearance. Holding the reigns are Horse Meat Disco residents Jim Stanton, James Hillard, Severino and Luke Howard, who'll be joined by special guests Andrew Weatherall, Optimo and Tim Sweeney.
And if that lot doesn't rock your box, nothing will.
