A growing number of lesbian club nights are kicking back and providing safe spaces for lesbian, bisexual and queer women

Lesbian venues aren’t ten a penny in the capital. London has an array of bars and clubs that attract mainly gay and bi men, but there’s a huge lack of permanent spaces catering specifically to queer women, trans and non-binary people. In fact, She Soho is our only dedicated lesbian bar.

Still, a growing number of thriving club nights are kicking back, providing safe spaces for lesbian, bisexual and queer women to be themselves – and there’s no room for discrimination of any kind. Here’s our pick of some of the best.

Best lesbian clubs in London

Femme Daddy

Femme Daddy

A new weekly night from DJ Kasey Riot, one of She Soho’s most popular DJs. Every Tuesday, head to Klub – in Soho bar Ku’s basement – for gender-bending expression. Replacing the long-running Ruby Tuesdays, it’s all about leather, kink, crisp shirts and dapper looks.

Lick

Lick

Strictly for womxn and non-binary people, Lick is sheer queer chaos. It’s got a monthly night and bi-monthly strip club event – brimming with fire-breathing, twerking and pole dancing to the sound of hip hop, R&B, house and garage.

Gal Pals

Gal Pals

This queer dance party was created a few years ago to address the lack of safe spaces for queer women and folks with marginalised gender identities. With regular club nights split between Brighton and east London, it plays the best female-fronted bangers – pop, rock, hip hop and R&B. Bring your gal pals, and say bye to the patriarchy.

Aphrodyki

Aphrodyki

The ultimate club night for every queer woman, trans or non-binary babe in the capital is absolutely buzzing – this Ancient Greek-themed party even made a cheeky appearance in Desiree Akhavan’s TV show ‘The Bisexual’. It’s a Sapphic sanctuary crammed into a step-free basement bar where female and non-binary DJs smash out the best of R&B and pop goddesses – think Rihanna, Robyn and Madonna. Shun Hades for this queer underworld – you’ll have him shitting rainbows.

Pxssy Palace

Pxssy Palace

For queer womxn, non-binary and trans people of colour, this monthly event loves its themed nights – from the tastefully named ‘Game of Hoes’ to the Wild West-inspired ‘Yeehaw’. It’s a welcoming, no-pressure environment, including a free taxi service for trans people of colour.

Butch, Please

Butch, Please

Held bi-monthly at the iconic Royal Vauxhall Tavern, this night is a celebration of butch lesbian subculture and a rare haven for those trying to exist in our harsh world of gender binaries. Expect anything-goes performances, fab DJs and big dyke energy. Sure, it’s on a Thursday night, but it still gets raucous and rammed. Get ready to pull a sickie.

Adama Jalloh

BBZ

With its clubbing roots in south-east London, BBZ prioritises queer women, trans folk and non-binary people of colour. It’s got fab ressie DJs like Sherelle – she exploded after her Boiler Room set went massive this year – and is part of an exciting creative collective with a socially conscious ethos.

Fanny Packer

Fanny Packer

A big lesbian mash-up that happens sporadically, Fanny Packer takes over Dalston Superstore’s two floors with DJs from its regular queer nights, including Nite Dykez and Fèmmme Fraîche. It gets busy, so get there early.

Fèmmme Fraîche

Fèmmme Fraîche

A lesbian staple at lovely Dalston Superstore. For trash-pop and guilty pleasures stay upstairs. Or if you want to get sweaty, descend into the basement for house, techno and acid. It attracts big-name DJs too. The likes of Honey Dijon, Joyce Muniz and DJ Heather have played there.
