This is more of a commuter-friendly coffee bar than full-blown eaterie, but they do take their beans seriously: Square Mile pulled on a La Marzocco espresso machine with a guest filter coffee every week and ‘cupping’ classes to teach regulars how to better appreciate their brew. To accompany it are some surprisingly refined sweetmeats: greengage and lavender friands, apricot crumble, and some light and extremely addictive cinnamon doughnut muffins.
The lunchtime crowd are fed with salads and thinly cut sandwiches on sourdough, neatly filled with high-quality ingredients such as Wiltshire ham, pastrami or sauerkraut (plus an indulgent peanut butter, honey and banana for those who missed breakfast or miss their nanny). A light airy space, high wooden benches to sit at and welcoming service make Browns a popular local pit stop.

If this isn't best coffee south of the north pole, im not here. Like walking into your front room and there's a legend making coffee and handing you delicious food.
Highlights are: Flat White, Double Banger, cinnamon doughnut, salmon bagels on the weekend. The kids love the brownies.
Nice (extortionate) coffee, but a terrible place to visit on your commute. Staff refuse to be helpful to those in a hurry and stall deliberately with payment etc. V rude. Not great when it's literally next to a station.
Go for perfect, silky coffee, in this small-but-perfectly-formed, laid-back cafe. Should you be lucky enough to drop in for a quick breakfast or lunch, the pastries and sandwiches (think grilled fennel with salami on springy sourdough) are also superb.
Great independent cafe. Best coffee in the area by far!!! Great service. Delicous food and and sweet things made on the premises.
More than just great coffee, Browns is warm and friendly - guaranteed to stick a smile on my face and a fantastic coffee in my hand every time I go there.
Browns is seriously great. Fantastic coffee, friendly service and delicious food in a simple, beautiful space. My first stop in the morning almost every day!
I just had the best chocolate brownie outside of my own kitchen! Truly delicious. Also had a great savory scone which was cut to look like a sandwich filled with cream cheese and bacon. Amazing. Lovely service to top it off. If only Brown's was open when I got home from work :( closing at 3pm is far too early!
Great coffee here, which is hard to find in London where they think instant coffee is a good idea. The americano I ordered was great. It's good for picking up coffee in the mornings, and they do have somewhere to sit if you want to have a chat with a friend.
Best coffee in the south. Great food. Lovely staff. Great Gin and Tonic. 3 stars is just wrong, Time Out!
Can't believe you guys gave Browns a stingy 3 stars - it's by far the best cafe in Brockley. Their coffee is out of this world and Ross and the other guys are some of the friendliest people you could meet. Plus the interior is understated and chic, and the food is lovely. A hidden gem.
