Diciannove Italian Restaurant & Wine Bar

This Crowne Plaza Hotel restaurant and bar was once, many moons ago, known as Refettorio - with Giorgio Locatelli at the helm, no less. Today, it still follows an Italian theme, with a menu showcasing classic plates from across the boot, served in a grand, Grade II-listed setting.

They feature alongside dishes designated 'signatures': think fresh burrata served with asparagus and balsamic vinegar, chargrilled swordfish with cherry tomatoes and rocket salad, and casarecce Calabrese - pasta with a fresh tomato sauce, n’duja sausage, Calabrian olives and parsley. Desserts range from affogato and zabaione to tiramisu and plates of Italian cheese.

Six bottles sourced from Spain, France, Chile and New Zealand are the only concessions on an otherwise all-Italian wine list - even the bubbly options are proseccos or sparkling Venetian reds. Expect Italian beers, too.

I was a little apprehensive at first, having known the restaurant as it's previous name Refettorio. This place has come to life with the new refurb! Much prefer the decor and the new style. The good quality is still excellent, as is the service. My only 'niggle' was that wine list could have offered more variety. That said I've been told that a new wine list is being finalised with more options. I had the pork belly with pancetta, which was really flavoursome. My husband enjoyed the scallops starter and the lobster main. All in all, it was a lovely evening. Will visit again.

Had the best time at Diciannove this weekend. Staff really looked after us and their Cicchetti and Negroni menu was great for me and my friends as we wanted to graze rather than have a full on meal. The pizzettes are particularly good. Recommended!

Refetorio was something truly special which brought the Hotel to a high Standard. Diciannove will never be as good as Refettorio and i can only say that now the Crowne Plaza Hotel will become again a simple Crowne Plaza like the others. Soon this Rest will be another fiasco.
