Noted for its fine Deep South-influenced barbecue food (the beef ribs really are outstanding), this De Beauvoir spot is a prime place to settle down for a no-nonsense session of meat, beans and beer. Before success forced Beavertown brewery up to larger premises in Tottenham Hale (via Hackney Wick), it started life here, and as official taproom there’s a focus on its own wares (from the always-dependable Gamma Ray APA and exceptional Neck Oil Session IPA, at 4.3 percent the afternoon drinker’s friend). Many Beavertown brews are canned too, which suits Duke’s sticky-fingered vibe perfectly. It’s small wonder Duke’s Brew regularly has a queue.

We found this place on Easter Bank Holiday Monday, I have to say from the moment we walked through the door we fell in love with the place, the vibe, the staff, and OMG the food is 10 out of 10, I am the most fussiest eater and I'm a veggie, I cleared my plate something I never do but you just cant stop eating, you cannot and I mean cannot fault this place, the owner is a lady called Hanna and when I say the customer service is awesome, the staff are bang on, they don't mess about, so attentive, anyone who leaves a negative review must be bonkers, I eat in the best of places, this pees all over fine dining, the food is made with love, its good wholesome grub, it will now be a regular place for us, and we have already booked and bringing friends to enjoy a fun night there.  DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE!

The 20% off Mon and Tue off is not accepted by them unless its a 6pm booking.

We went last night and the manager argued with us regarding the 20% off which was completely unprofessional since they tweeted yesterday that if you book anytime til 7pm you get 20% off. Perhaps the management should look into this and resolve it rather than arguing with your customer and saying 'It costs me money giving you the discount'.

Food was lovely but experience was tainted by the manager on Tuesday 24th June 2014.

Hello Dukes brew & que where did you come from? I love it when friends visit and say they have read about a place online and you have never heard of it.

Dukes is close to Haggerston overground and has a nice little outdoor dining area as well as indoor.

If you didn't guess it specialises in BBQ food. Ribs, steak, mac & cheese the typical American style diner. The decor is wooden and typical and the staff are really lovely.

I opted for the flat iron steak with fries and coleslaw and pickles. At £17 the portion was huge! The steak came perfectly cooked (medium rare) and also with a lovely honey & mustard sauce. The fries had added paprika and perfectly crispy.

Drink wise I opted for the house red wine which was also lovely.

The dessert menu was perfect! 3 desserts all form favourites of mine! Peanut butter style cheesecake, sticky toffee pudding and chocolate brownie. We ordered all 3 and shared between the 4 of us.

The prices here are reasonable and the service is great. I'd recommend booking if you are a group as it was pretty full at 6pm when we went.

Check out some of my lovely pictures of the food we had.

My feeling after visiting the place was that it was too pricy in comparison to other similar restaurants, with a more limited range or options on offer. Just looking at the current menu they seem to have dropped the 'Cob Salad' which is probably a good thing being that it was basically half a lettuce (cut down the middle) with a dollop of dressing and sprinkled with a distinctly ungenerous portion of bacon bits for around £7. To me it seemed to be a case of style over substance added to a distinct lack of sauces for this type of joint. If you're a fan of plenty of sauces with your meats I'd head on down to a Bodean's.

My best friend had been telling me about this place for a while, and as a relatively recently converted vegetarian, I was excited. We made a reservation for a Thursday night and when we showed up, the place was pretty damn busy - generally a good sign. We were seated straightaway and took a while to peruse the menu.... so. many. meaty. options!

Not to mention the beer...

Anywho, we both ordered: I got the pork ribs with coleslaw and pulled pork and beans and two sides - mac and cheese and deep friend pickles; my friend got the mixed meat platter with chicken wings. The waitress did tell us that we ordered a LOT of food, but we waved her off, saying we were starving. Well holy crap, it was A LOT OF FOOD. I didn't even finish everything. But it was fantastic. Great flavour on the ribs, and lots of meat. My friend said the beef ribs weren't great but he loved the pork. I had a beer flight and he had a few different beers. Finished the night off with some delicious cocktails for me, and whiskey for him. All in all, yes it's expensive, but we felt it was worth it. Try it out for yourself!

Reviews below are pretty spot on... basically its a little all over the place. Having visited a few times you really cant guarantee quality one way or another. I've been and had a fantastic meal and ive also been and had really poor food and service (oddly enough I've also had a totally average time, maybe more fool me for going back and trying again).

At its best this DB&Q is one of the best in the bbq meat bunch so hopefully they'll settle out the issue and find a way to make that consistant.

Brace yourself for this place, it's a carnivore's dream. If you're a veggie, you might want to give this place a miss. We all plumped for the pork ribs and a selection of sides coupled with a pint of the 8 Ball, as recommended by the menu. The ribs were really tasty, as were the sauces and slaw on the side. As for the sides, it was a mixed bag, the deep fried pickles and chicken wings were a winner, but the salad, was an overpriced iceberg lettuce. The beer was excellent and the pairing was spot on. There's a great atmosphere in the restaurant and it's well located, so much so we stuck around until closing sipping on Espresso-tinis. My one criticism and the reason for four stars instead of five, is the price. It's pretty expensive for what you get, considering it's ribs and sides are sold separately. They're good, but I've had equally good ones for a lot cheaper elsewhere.

Been visiting this restaurant for the past 3 years for every family birthday and the food is consistently very good. Staff are always very friendly and welcoming too.

Hmmm, I'm really torn about this place; I've been here twice now with mixed success.

The first time I had the pork ribs; an absolute must-try and probably some of the best I've ever had, but the second time I had the pulled pork and it was really disappointing - the BBQ sauce used was just too sharp and the pork itself was quite stodgy.

I was highly excited about visiting Dukes Brew & Que after reading various reviews of this much hyped East London restaurant, the latest to jump on the BBQ cusine bandwagon. As a huge fan and regular visitor to Pitt Cue co, Bodeans, Chicago Rib Shack, and other established purveyors of fine rib and pork goodness, I arrived with justifiably high expectations, which only served to exacerbate how badly I was let down by the distinctly sub-par quality of the food we experienced at Dukes last night. For the relatively high pricing (e.g. £14.95 for one beef rib, with no sides except for a measly portion of very average slaw) you would expect premium quality, but alas, the beef rib was tough, gristly, and very underwhelming. We were told by the waiter that the beef rib typically weighs in around 500gms including bone, with around 250-300gms of meat, but in reality after removing the fat and gristle, there cant have been any more than 150-200 gms of edible beef. The pork ribs (circa £14 for two medium sized ribs, again served with just a tiny portion of slaw) were a bit better, but still miles off the standard delivered regularly by the aforementioned dining establishments. The pulled pork was the best of the lot we tried, but still far below expectations, and having cooked this regularly myself, I am well aware it is a dish that is actually quite hard to screw up, so Im not offering much credit for the fact it was relatively less disappointing as the ribs were. The house beer was definitely the high point of the night, but unfortunately nowhere near enough to entice me to traipse all the way out to Haggerston again for a return visit. Very disappointing dining experience. Save your time and money, and head for somewhere else.

Dukes has a lovely warm atmosphere, great drinks and beer menu but unfortunately the food was distinctly average. the restaurant has so much potential but it lacks in truly serving up southern bbq classics. I visited dukes last night and had the beef ribs. If these were smoked low and slow properly then the meat should have fallen from the bone, instead it was chewy and tough. all in all a disappointing visit and it has nothing on Pitted Que!

Avatar for Michael

Really had a superb time here. We could barely finish our sides after the ribs, although somehow managed to find room for cheesecake and brownie. Beef ribs were tender and sticky and the pork just fell off the bone. Staff really very friendly and a truly insurmountable selection of drink between imports, craft beers, rums and tequilas. I can't seem spot a three star review on here (people seem to either love it or be disappointed) and there're a couple that say they got tough ribs - got speaking with the staff about this and it's clear they're very happy to replace if there's an issue. Highly recommended.

Finest ale in London! Fabulous beer bottles (love the Beavertown Brewery Gamma Ray APA). Stunning ribs. Purposeful and friendly service.

Avatar for Alex Plim

Outstanding restaurant, both in terms of atmosphere and food. The beef ribs were as big as my ankles - utterly succulent and cooked to perfection. I'd thoroughly recommend the scrumpy cider too.

Avatar for Roberto

This eve on my visit it was 3rd time in a row that I was told that the beef's ribs were not available. Come on..how can you run out of your best and popular dish on Monday dinner at 7.00pm with the restaurant half empty!!! This is really an issue! The guy at the door was vey efficient with very good manner, him is the one receiving my only star for you guys. After been seated on a table which we could use for only an hour, the most rudest waitress on earth just jumped on us asking for drinks (we still have our coats on..) and when I pointed that we weren't ready she just barked off that because we only have 50 minutes we have to hurry up!! twice...I can eat a 6 courses meal in 50 min..I am Italian..after that we left immediately and we would never never go back. Ciao.

I can't believe this place even comes anywhere near the top of the list! Went there in September on my birthday, spurred on by the TimeOut review of the ribs - what a mistake! We were served the toughest, 2-inch wide, old beef ribs that I eventually gave up tying to eat. I can only presume this was a cost saving exercises by the restaurant, serving elderly cattle ribs (tell by the size) rather than tender young beef ribs. I couldn't chew what I eventually managed to rip off the bone, appalling. I can only presume the reviewer was treated to the 'real deal', but I certainly wouldn't go back nor recommend the place! Service was good, nice surroundings and atmosphere, but not one of the three serving staff asked if we had enjoyed the meal, which speaks volumes as far as I'm concerned. Wanted to enjoy the place, failed miserably!

Just an awesome place. Great meat - beef ribs are INCREDIBLE. So much awesome beer and barstaff that really know their stuff and are willing to chat to you about it if you fancy. I think to truly appreciate this place you need to like beer and find microbrewery culture really fascinating. Nice decor, nice bathrooms (important!). Service from our waitress but a bit meh but I'm still giving it 5 stars because y'know, she was ok and the food, drinks, barstaff service and atmosphere were all superb. One of my favourites.

Massive beef ribs - and I mean ENORMOUS - but, sadly, hugely tasteless. Pork ribs, on the other hand, were fantastic. Sides were all fried, and meal felt somewhat unbalanced though we could have ordered better I suppose. Be prepared for A LOT of tattoo-ed trendies. With beards.

Avatar for Harry

Great food and drinks. Beef ribs and pork sliders where seriously great. but service very rude which was disappointing. You know it's bad when you seriously consider asking them to deduct the service charge from the bill.

Just got back home from Dukes. Its a saturday night and i felt compelled to write just what a bad experience we had. The service was initially ok- however 2 of our cocktails were somewhat reminiscent of nail varnish remover so we sent them back. Big mistake. We were interrogated by 3 members of staff after these 2 cocktails were still on the bill- and it was only after further discussion that the drinks were finally removed. The food was average. Portions suitable for fred flintstone. Nothing to qrite home about. Wont be going up. The management have a lot to learn.

We really enjoyed our meal here. It's relaxed and friendly with super service and it's own micro brewery! We had a great meal and lots of fun. The food was excellent. It combines a BBQ southern american approach to the food with a range of local and brewed on the premises ales. We didn't have the ribs it is becoming famous for but a Pork Chop special and the classic burger. Both mains were excellent. The puddings were fab too. The waitress was lovely, knowledgeable and charming. She recommended ales and cocktails all of which were excellent. Yes it is busy but the noise levels are not too loud. We went as a couple and could here each others conversation.

Avatar for Meh

Don't bother with the breakfast here, has potential, someone in the kitchen is clearly trying to save money by serving up stale muffins fake maple syrup and just generally cutting corners. This place is just for people who don't know any better but for me food quality comes first. Don't let the appearances fool you, probably fine for a drink and some bar snacks....

Avatar for Nathan

I'm not entirely sure why there are so many negative reviews about this place. Service was prompt (without being pushy), extremely well mannered and, when it came to the ales, knowledgeable. The ambience is lively without being loud. I opted for the beef ribs. One of them was a little fatty on top but, on the whole, they were marvellous. Tender, juicy and not cooked to the right level (I see some people complaining about them being undercooked - do they actually enjoy tasting meat?!) The sides were excellent - full marks the beans! Then there are the pork sliders. Utter perfection. Do not miss out on these little badboys! A great selection of ales, both from the US and the UK, which are stored at the right temperature and reasonably priced. Definitely recommended.

Rudest front-of-house - genuinely not sure what this place thinks it is? We walked in on a Sunday, and even though the place was half-empty we were told we couldn't get a seat as they had a backlog in the kitchen and reservations. We spotted some friends at a table and decided to walk over to say hello, when the front-of-house chick marched us out of there, telling us very clearly there was no space for us. Never again.

Avatar for Jay

Went to Duke's on Sunday with my girlfriend ordered Ribs and steak. Food took more then 3mins to arrive and the Ribs turned out to be very chewy and the steak was suppose to be a sirloin but ended up being more chewier then a normal sirloin. We had been there previously and had our food burnt but we thought to give them a second chance but we were sorely disappointed. Service was terrible when went to the toilet, the waitress without asking if I was finished just took away my plate, when complained to the manager his attitude was very poor and wouldn't listen to us. He offered no compensation for the dis service. Avoid at all costs.

If you want to eat....pass this rip off joint ...walk on by.....You WILL get better value and service at the local greasy spoon and come away with change in your pocket and... also not insulted by the oh so precious staff supposedly serving you. You pay the price, you make the choice ! p.s.... Has Granny left you a nice pile...coz..... if not don't order bottled water...just a tip.

Meh. That's all really, just a meh. Not bad, far from great. First disappointment was not having the "que" on during the day although, that was my fault for not checking first but to be fair, I just presumed that a place called Brew & Que would always have both of those elements. The breakfast was tasty though. Then there was our waiter who seemed utterly desperate for us to order. 3 times he approached our table asking us if we were ready to order and 3 times we told him we were still waiting for one of our friends to arrive. "The kitchen closes at 3.30" we were told, it was only 2.30, weird. When she did arrive, she was barely allowed to take her seat when he was back at our table demanding our order, talk about feeling rushed! After we'd all eaten, we were all sitting chatting, having a few drinks when we were told our table was reserved for half an hours time, fair enough, could we move to another table, we asked, no, they're pretty much all reserved we were told. Now, I don't have an issue with tables being reserved, but we should have been told this when we sat down or they should have tried to find us another table. It felt like they didn't care whether we stayed or left, they're the new cool kids on the block and they're going to be busy, customer service not required. Overall, I felt this place was a little too cool for school, all style and little substance. Shame, cos I'd really been looking forward to going and I had been the one to suggest it to all my friends so I left feeling very disappointed in the experience as a whole.

I was happy to see a new bbq joint in London as it is one area that is highly lacking. We tried everything as a menu and have to say the best part was the beans. The meat was very tough and gristly with not much flavour. Seems like something was lacking in the rub. It maybe the fact that we have spent time in Lockhart tasting some of the best bbq that we might be expecting to much. Maybe with time it will get better but allot of work will be needed for us to go back.

Avatar for JC

Went on a Tuesday night with 3 friends. We all ordered Ribs and one had a steak; of the 4 plates that arrived, one dish was cold and another was overdone. We asked for some English mustard and they brought an empty bottle. The manager's explanation was "they just don't care tonight" - referring to the kitchen. Whilst his honesty was refreshing, he failed to offer any compensation. Wouldn't go back because if you are only going to offer 5 or 6 dishes and you're 'known' for your Ribs then they should be great and ours were not...

Avatar for mavis

nice vibe, average food my ribs were so tough and dry it was hard to chew. flavor was nice. The portion was on the smaller side considering how much they are charging. Pitt Cue is still & definitely the winner in London town.

Avatar for Matt C

Food was good, but the service shocking, waited 15 mins for our drinks order before asking another waiter for it, finally managed to order (Sunday Brunch- BBQ omelette very good) then again had to ask twice for the bill before giving up and standing at the till point to pay.

Avatar for Roberto

Very good food. The staff it was efficient and attentive. I will def go back for more beef's ribs!! Thank you.

Avatar for Jessica

Check out the beef ribs & trust the menu's suggestion of not smothering the meat in sauce- although you have to try a little! Brunch, dinner & drinks are great here: Check out the Beavertown 8ball- needs to be tasted to be believed! Don't tell too many people tho- it's hard enough to get a table..

Avatar for Diana

Tried this for the first time last night and found it fantastic. I had the sliders, which were very good, but also was gifted a surplus pork rib from a friend, which was even better. The sides are also great (we had chips, spinach and okra: the okra was particularly tasty). Also really enjoyed the home brew. Unfortunately not on tap on the night we were there, but had a bottle of the Beavertown 8ball and it was delicious. I barely noticed the decor (other than a pram with moustachio'd baby, which I rather liked) - but the feel of the room was a nice mixture of bright and cosy even on a rather dank May evening. The service was excellent too: fast but friendly and attentive. However, we ate at 6.30pm on a Wednesday (they were fully booked at more normal times), so I can't speak for weekends and evenings. Will definitely be back.

Avatar for Anna

Pickles and okra fritters:not a single pickle on sight in that dish. They replaced our order but without sauce, not much flavour. My burger was rare yet dry with a heavily meaty aftertaste. Pork ribs were too fatty and not cooked enough. Generally rather bland food, incl their sauces. Good coctails

Avatar for Sam

The beer is really great, the staff friendly and there's a good atmosphere. The food is fine, not mind-blowing but tasty, I went for the pulled pork sliders and chips and my friend had the burger. The sliders were a little on the cold side, and didn't pack much flavour, I would have liked some more spice coming through and the fried gherkin - which should be the highlight - was lost. My friend felt that the burger didn't match Meatliquor. The big problem came at the end of the meal, we'd booked an early friday reservation, and just as we were finishing off our food... we weren't being leisurely, our bill arrived... Not sure what they would have done if we had wanted dessert. Just as we finished our food... we still had drinks to finish we were asked to pay and move to the bar. This was fine, only as we waited at the bar, which is rather small, we saw that no one else was seated at our table. My friend placed her half full glass of cider on the bar for just one moment, and as she turned back to her drink we found that it had vanished... clearly thrown away. We felt so let down and deflated that we just left. It's certainly not as good as it could be.

Avatar for Josh

Great food, wonderful service and awesome beers. The only star I take away is for slightly cold ribs, but I still ate em with vigour. Will be even better when they have their full range of their own beers too, the Rye IPA I am sure will be amazing.

Avatar for David

Just...Wow. Great beers on offer and the food was superb. Beautifully smoked beef ribs that put Bodeans to shame (and I love Bodeans). Service was friendly and relaxed. Decor worked perfectly, themed well giving an authentic atmosphere without passing over into tacky, all accompanied with a good choice of background music. Looking forward to returning.

Avatar for APM

Great beers. Haven't tried food yet but prices are very high considering they've only just opened. Significantly higher than Pitt Cue Co and I cannot imagine the quality of the food will be close to theirs yet. Would have appreciated lower prices whilst their perfecting the menu.

Avatar for Jack

Loved the beers on offer and thought the service was great too, plenty of charm. Not the place for a quiet meal but great for a get together. Wouldn't nock the food either, the Mini Macs get my vote

Avatar for Tim Best

Impressed by the gir running the dinning room. I ordered a burger yet when the ribs came out I realised my mistake. To my suprise she brought out a big rib for me. Ditch the burgers guys, your ribs are brilliant and service a lesson to others. Downs: Decor a bit by the hipster pub/bar numbers and their brewery some way off the standard of fair selection of craft beers they serve. Well worth a visit.

Avatar for BigBoy

Great food and home brew, however, attention needs to be paid to service and making sure the place is not over crowded. I took my BF on Sunday and our meal was spoilt within 2 minutes of getting in the door by the waitress who told us that the table was on a one hour return... something that should have been said at the time of booking. Overall, the ribs are to die for but the service is very "Dalston"....

Avatar for Shai

Visited the Dukes' for brunch on a busy Saturday. I had the american style blueberry pancakes, which were awful-somehow undercooked and yet burnt at the same time. I doubt this was due to a barbeque process....My boyf wants to check out all the beers though, as they look good.

Avatar for Tony

The beer rates 4 stars the food two so overall a 3 . Once the kitchen settles down and finds some consistency its rating will surely rise.

Avatar for Gloria

Absolutely fantastic pub that reminded me of home, as an American it's nice to find a place with some authenticity. The food was mouth watering, succulent and beautifully smoked meats that were accompanied by homemade pickles and smoked que beans. It was all well complimented by the ales (my husband tells me!).

Avatar for Dan

Great as a pub, and a lovely atmosphere but the food has a lot of work ahead before its a 4 star. BBQ wise behind even bodeans right now.
