Terrific kebabs in Kentish Town Road, very popular with locals.

During refurbishment before its opening in October 2011, the owners of this kebab shop uncovered an old shop sign over the door. They decided to keep both sign and name – a popular move with locals. When a national restaurant critic wrote a rapturous review, E. Mono’s success was sealed. And with good reason. The food is a cut above your average drunkard’s dream kebab shop. The salad fillings are varied and tasty. The portions are enormous: our chicken shawarma weighed over 500g. While the meat is nothing special (a little fatty and under-seasoned), the well dressed salad compensates. The lamb shish is excellent, but the chips are merely satisfactory. Warning: chilli sauce is applied with abandon. If you don’t love the burn, ask for less of it. Since the restaurant opened in 2012, it has taken over the space next door so there is ample seating space if you don't fancy taking your kebab for a walk down Kentish Town Road.

When the guy I'm dating said on our first date that he'd like to treat me to a kebab at some point, I thought about cutting my loses right there and then and walking away from him. But after a month of him selling this specific kebab place to me ("Giles Coren reviewed it and said it is one of his favourite restaurants in London, so..."), and after a few glasses of processo (though I was definitely still sober, and it was 9pm), I gave him the opportunity to "revolutionise my life" with a trip to E. Mono.

The Lamb Shwarma with garlic sauce, chilies, salad, pickles and enough meat to sink a small ship was expertly wrapped within a floury tortilla, and packaged up for us to take away. Back home with a plate upon which we could spill (there is nothing elegant about this meal, FYI) I tucked in and was blown away by how fresh everything tasted, and none of it left that weird coating that a traditional van kebab leaves across the roof of your mouth. The lamb was succulent and juicy and made in house, the chilis fiery (and slightly unevenly dispersed but once my mouth had got used to the burn it became pleasant anyway) and the salad even still tasted crisp!

It was a huge portion, but for £6.50 I didn't feel too bad about leaving a little (which we came back to later, anyway!) and while my fella is now a little smug that he managed to get me into a kebab shop sober and count it as him "treating" me to dinner, I'm actually extremely grateful that he did... my life has indeed been revolutionised!

The chicken kofte is my husband's weekly essential, whilst an occasional marvellous cheese, salad & spice for me is class. Great service, lovely fellows, cheers

Authentic, incredibly delicious kebabs, all the sides and extras are perfect. Great service too!

Bloody love this place. The falafel leaves a lot to be desired but to be honest you'd be a fool not to order the lamb shish, especially as it's the same price. Big, juicy, tender chunks of lamb that have been cooked to order over hot coals sit on fresh, crunchy salads and are slathered in garlic yoghurt and punchy chilli sauce. Plus the wrap is excellent. Their second branch, right by Finsbury Park station, is also great.

Once you get a taste there is no doubt that you will be coming back! Have been to the Finsbury Park and Kentish town and received a great service at both!

Would highly recommend to friends and family.

Absolutely Phenomenal meat, very succulent and tender the chilli sauce is the icing on the cake.

I'm a regular and have tried everything on their menu without disappointment, its worth saying that Emono's serve the best Shawarma and Kofte I've ever had! You can really tell they've though their recipes through and that they take their time to prepare their delicious, tender and succulent meats to perfection.

Theres little to hate about this place; friendly staff, awesome food - these guys have high standards, prices are easy on the pocket. Just lovely.

nothing like a emono kebab, 35 years of kebab experience, freshly prepaired meat and salad everyday, bread from bakers in morning, and a choice of delicious grill or charcoal menu you cant you wrong, been running since 2011 and still getting better each year. Best kebab in london hands down. I dont har to convince you, just try it.

Not entirely sure what planet the rest of the reviewers are on. I'm Greek so I know my kebabs and I can honestly say this is one of the worst I've ever tasted. I had the lamb doner wrap and it was awful. Full of fatty bits, chewy like gum. Spat most of it out and eventually binned it. Very disappointed as I went all the way to Kentish Town especially as I'd heard such good things about this place.
