This popular Islington restaurant has been in the same family since it launched, back in the late '60s. The slightly ritzy plush of Frederick’s entrance cocktail bar, the surprising spaciousness of the dining room beyond, the striking 1980s artwork, the lofty conservatory and pretty hidden garden alongside all come together to convey the idea that a meal here is a bit of a treat.
The (mostly) European food menu offers dishes such as crab bisque, ox-cheek raviolo with onion broth and croutons, pan-fried duck breast with celeriac fondant, croquettes and Gascon cabbage, and Welsh lamb cutlets with sautéed potato and garlic French beans. Salt and pepper squid with chilli sauce, and pistachio and herb-crusted tuna with courgette and carrot spaghetti, edamame beans and a mirin dressing are also available.
Keep an eye out for seasonal menus and Saturday brunches, too.
Whether it's a business lunch, a cocktail for two, dinner or a wedding, Frederick's will look after you in style. We are well-known for our secluded garden, which provides a view of the high-ceilinged conservatory in winter, but is a delight to enjoy in summer. Our wine list receives high praise for its breadth and price, and our sommeliers will be happy to help.

Me and my girlfriend went to Fredericks on quiet Wednesday evening. Unfortunately even if you book the table in advance they can't guarantee you good table, as any table can be given to bigger company and you have to pray them to get a table in good location. The food was OK, but just OK not fine for such an high-end restaurant they claim they are applying such a high price policy for their menu. Portions were very tiny so we left this place half empty paid for starters+main course+desert something around 90 pounds. What's about service it was really not worth 12.5% we paid for them as a service charge ( how can argue and don't pay it in front of your girlfriend? ). Wine glasses were always empty and we had to wait at least 10 minutes for them to be filled, same for water, bread was offered just once and we had to wait 8 minutes for empty plates to be removed although 6! waiters were working around. Also they claim, that they can offer 50% TasteCard discount, but actually we were offered just fixed 15 pounds discount without any explanation, so it was like rip-off for me. As conclusion: for such a price you can find excellent service, big portions and better ambience in any posh Mayfair restaurants and not in tiny family-run place in Islington.
Frederick's is more than just a restaurant.
This spacious, modern and luminous place in the quiet and trendy Camden passage has indeed multiple spaces. Those include a cocktail bar, a glass-roofed garden room, a private club-room and a splendid back garden; which makes the place ideal for business lunches as well as private events. It has become a spot for the media / newspapers industry.
The food is delicious and reasonably priced. Healthy and seasonal products are served in simple but subtle dishes, the staff is friendly and professional.
Go there with no expectations and you'll be amazed!
Great Owners and Staff, Top Chef in control of a great seasonal menu. Never had a bad meal at Fredericks and recommend highly
Very disappointed with Frederick's for the over-priced menu and smallish portions of bland and boring dishes - I tried pork on two separate occasions and it was inedible....the front of house staff did not even question why the food was untouched on the plate! The only reason it is still popular is the lack of imagination of the loyal followers and newbies trying it out for the first time or with vouchers... There are so many other gorgeous food choices available, you don't need to settle for mediocrity!
A great place for a special treat, especially when the reduced price menu is on early eve or early week. I agree, not great for vegetarians, but impeccable service and great atmosphere.
