Palm Court Brasserie

A French brasserie located a short walk from the main piazza in Covent Garden, decorated in 1920s art nouveau style. The narrow dining area is framed with French posters, giving the intimate space a slick of brasserie authenticity.

Palm Court serves classic French dishes like mussels, steak-frites and salad Niçoise. In addition to the mostly-French, old-world-skewed wine menu, there are aperitifs and classic cocktails, too.

Mediocre food, nice enough atmosphere but the restaurant is sweltering. The service really lets this place down. It is slow, rude, and is undoubtedly the worst service I have ever had in London.

Edible and clean surroundings are all I expect for a Sunday lunch deal in the heart of the west end. We were pleasantly surprised. The surroundings and ambience were just right for friendly company and actually felt reasonably upmarket in its decor. As the waiters weren’t rushed off their feet they had the space to highlight their personalities and we had extremely efficient, polite and even humorous service.

The food was more than half decent and plentiful. No need for a meal in the evening with all that lot! I liked it a lot and will return, especially if they have another deal.

Tip: Go hungry, smile at the waiters

Disagree with the 2013 review from Ava, this place has certainly cleaned up its act. Set just off the main hub of Covent Garden, this had all potential to be awful because of its location in touristville, where they might not have to make the effort. We held a surprise Christmas meal here for a friend and I think it was good. The food was probably somewhere between 3 and 4 star for me but we had a Christmas menu which never showcases a venue's proper ability. Service was outstanding and they were very friendly - we had an issue with one dessert but they were super apologetic and returned it promptly and with a smile. It was rather hot in the venue but it was also packed out. This strikes me as a good venue for a business lunch or dinner, or a small family get-together perhaps somewhere in theatreland.
