The Vintry

Well known as one of the City of London’s favourite restaurants and wine bars, The Vintry is the ideal combination old and new. The intention of The Vintry is made clear from the very moment one steps inside – the décor is an unobtrusive mix of the traditional city boy bar, all dark wood and comfort, and the very modern trend for all things reclaimed and vintage styled with oversized light fittings, mix and match mirrors and judicial use of wine crates as decorative items. Equally, The Vintry’s menu is a simple juxtaposition of old and new, hearty and healthy, British and worldwide. It goes without saying, of course, that the wine list is absolutely superb with more than 100 labels.

Great restaurant hidden in the city, on a sunny day everyone spills out on to the courtyard which creates a really fun vibe especially for after work drinks. Nice décor inside and a great downstairs area which you can hire for events. Simple modern and well priced menu, I've eaten here many times and can not fault the food or service.

Don't be put off by their horrible website (or my terrible photo), down an unassuming laneway, it opens up onto a courtyard behind the office buildings around Bank and Mounment. The whole place is hidden away from the main streets, but it sure doesn't need the advertisement.

We headed there hoping it is well away from the Borough Market crowd, unfortunately still unable to find a table. The staff is friendly, plenty of standing room, however if you're hoping for a table, bookings or early arrivals are crucial. After a few drinks we had to leave as the food started to smell too nice on our empty stomachs. Definitely a return visit is required to try out the menu.

great ribeye steak and chips; one of the best in the City. The hot-smoked salmon starter was also impressive. Highly recommended

very good lunch: salmon and tuna tartare, with home-made pickles, lobster (native) with fresh tagliolini, chilli garlic. salted peanut icecream. very good
