'Rita, Sue and Bob Too' at Royal Court Theatre

  • What is it?

Tickets to the Royal Court’s revival of Andrea Dunbar’s seminal Thatcher-era drama – exclusively discounted for Time Out.

    Why buy?

In Thatcher-era Bradford, Rita and Sue are two teenagers from a council estate who are about to leave school with little to no career prospects. Bob is a middle-class man with a flash car and a wife. After they babysit his kids, Bob drives the girls home – and so begins the fling, that each of them think they can control - that shocked theatregoers when it premiered at the Royal Court back in 1982, and will likely do the same today.

Playwright Andrea Dunbar – who was 19 when she wrote this – grew up in working-class Bradford and based ‘Rita, Sue and Bob Too’ on many of her own experiences. With its unsparing depictions of sex, this play offered a snapshot of a broken-down, poverty-stricken Britain ravaged by class divide. And in our own era of food banks and austerity, the play surely still has the power to resonate. With our exclusive offer, tickets start at just £15. Don’t miss this rare revival of a frank and gritty masterpiece.
