Southbank Centre Summer Dance

Description
  • What is it?

Discounted tickets to two striking dance shows at the Royal Festival Hall: one making its UK premiere and the other a mixed-media spectacular.

    Why go?

Not one, but two critically acclaimed contemporary dance shows from companies across the seas will be hitting London. 'Morphed', which is presented by Tero Saarinen's leading Finnish dance company and has a fraught, string-led soundtrack courtesy of Esa-Pekka Salonen, is only here for one night. You won't want to miss the seven buff dancers exploring themes of masculinity, sensuality and change through both brutal and delicate movements, and a tussle with some ropes hanging from the ceiling.

And if ropes aren't your bag, how about wigs, guitars and what looks like a pile of liquorice lace instead? Because the Iceland Dance Company is performing 'Sacrifice', a show inspired by worship, ritual and art. For three nights within the foyer of the Royal Festival Hall, this troupe will combine ballet, film and the essence of a rock gig. That's gotta be worth a trip to the South Bank.
