Clapton Jumble Trail

This crowd-sourced street sale is back for the third year running and newly re-christened as the Clapton Jumble Trail. Part of the nation-wide Jumble Trail initiative, local sellers are invited to set up stalls outside their homes, flogging anything from bric a brac and toys to vintage clothes and cakes. It’s all coordinated online via a colour coded shopping map, so you can pinpoint your route - check it out here.

I am obviously going to write biased review being the Champion of this event, but I thought it might be nice to get the ball rolling by giving you readers some background about Clapton Jumble Trail. It began in August 2013 out of desire to get to know my neighbours and make a difference in the community, since then it’s become and online platform ( for anyone wanting to create a Jumble Trail. The idea of a Jumble Trail isn’t just about selling your stuff and making some money or nabbing some bargains, it’s more subtle than that - it’s having a street that you usually walk down empty - suddenly full of life, it feels magical/unusual, lots of people are milling around and there is a buzz in the air, everyone has an excuse to talk to each other without any weirdness and it feels kinda like it did when I was a child, safe and friendly. There are heaps of Jumble Trails this summer, maybe pop along and check one out for yourself.
