Open Court returns with a colourful line-up of work by young playwrights

The first Open Court, in 2013, announced new Artistic Director Vicky Featherstone's arrival in style. 140 writers took over the building in a bustling, bewildering six week celebration of new writing. This time round, Open Court won't be quite as huge. It's pared down to three weeks, and it's got a clear focus on young people's work. 10 writers aged 15-24 will stage plays, performances and installations, with the help of actors from National Youth Theatre.

The line-up opens with 'Sense', by Serafina Cusack and Benedikt Päffgen, which is a promenade performance exploring each of the five senses. 'Presenting...' is a showcase for short works by young writers. 'Drinking Concrete: The Concept Album' brings together young composers and playwrights in a work inspired by Kendrick Lamar’s album 'To Pimp A Butterfly'. David Watson's 'Knife Edge' is a look at fear, food and family. And a series of 'One Nighters' present work by visiting young companies.

The programme also includes talks, workshops and free installations: for full details, visit the Royal Court website
