Ah, the pub. Nothing quite compares to it. It's the first place you go to celebrate good news, to console your mates when they’re feeling down, to meet a new love interest and to unwind after a long day at work. Your local has a special place in your heart. As it should do. This summer, Pub in the Park is celebrating all the things we love about pubs. From the hearty dishes coming out of the kitchen to the live music that gets you up and grooving after a couple of G&Ts. The event is popping up in parks across the city, including Wimbledon Park (new for 2022) from May 27-29, Dulwich Park from June 24-26 and Chiswick House & Gardens from September 2-4. Here’s why you should buy yourself a ticket.

1. Get stuck into the food

This year, the festival is going all-out with its biggest food selection to date. We’re talking a whopping 150 dishes to choose from, coming at you from 39 award-winning restaurants taking part across the whole tour. That’s a lot of food. While you’re mooching around the stalls you can enjoy signatures from some of the best pubs across the country – all in one place. There’s also a bunch of London faves taking part too, including Holy Carrot (vegan), The Princess of Shoreditch, Hoopers, Cue Point, Ben Tish’s The Princess Royal and Atul Kochhar's Restaurants.

2. Rub shoulders with famous chefs

The hottest names in the industry will be right there on your doorstep. Expect trailblazers, TV celebrities and Michelin-star-toting icons alike. Hosts include the festival’s creator Tom Kerridge, alongside some of his mates (that also happen to be famous) like James Martin, Matt Tebbutt, Andi Oliver, Grace Dent and many more, as they take to the Chef Demo Stage to bring you live foodie entertainment.

3. And catch an all-star line-up of entertainment

All of this comes served with a healthy side of entertainment. Instead of having to hear your friends on the karaoke or a pub band performing Kaiser Chiefs covers, you’ve got a top-tier selection of musical talent. Wimbledon will feature Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Basement Jaxx (DJ set), Soul II Soul, Toploader, Faithless (DJ Set) and more.

Then you’ve got Dulwich offering Craig David TS5, Sister Sledge, The Sugar Hill Gang, Faithless (DJ Set) Set, Mica Paris, Trevor Nelson, Aswad, The Christians and Norman Jay. There's also the Pub Comedy Club (on the evening of June 25) with belly-acing laughs courtesy of Mark Watson, Milton Jones and Henning Wehn in Dulwich and Phil Wang alongside Zoe Lyons and Mark Watson in Wimbledon on the evening of May 28.

Meanwhile, Chiswick will see Craig David TS5, Beverley Knight, Faithless (DJ Set), Sophie Ellis-Bextor, The Sugar Hill Gang, The Christians and others performing live.

4. Along with plenty more fun

Of course, there are drinks of all kinds available from the pop-up bars. But when you’re not watching the chefs do their thing with a beer in hand, filling your belly with all the drool-worthy stuff on offer, or laughing along to live comedians, you’ve got a bunch of activities to keep yourself amused. The little ones can be kept on their toes with a dedicated kids area featuring crafts, games and more, while the adults have an artisan food market to explore, offering specialist ingredients and top-quality produce.

5. Raise a glass to Great British Pubs

You can’t forget the real meaning behind it all. And that’s to have a few drinks, hang out with some top chefs and get your chops around some of the finest pub grub being served by Britain’s most beloved locals. So, while you’re singing along to ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’ or watching Tom Kerridge talk about the best ways to make a Cote de Boeuf, take a moment to reflect on why pubs are so bloody great. Cheers!
