The south front of Broadcasting House, headquarters of the BBC, at Langham Place, London, circa 1932. The building was an inspiration for the Ministry of Truth.

The influence of London on George Orwell’s work is the subject of this themed weekly walk. The culture, sights and people of pre-war and wartime London will be discussed as you stroll from Great Portland Street, through the West End and on to Rathbone Place and there’s a short reading from a different Orwell work at each stop. The cost of the two-and-a-half hour tour includes a copy of Orwell’s 1946 essay ‘Politics and the English Language’. Meet at Great Portland Street tube station. To book a place, email
