Awards season is back, meaning your news feed is soon to be chock full of cringey acceptance speeches and iffy outfits. On the plus side, though, it also means the best films of last year have just started to drop on DVD and Blu-ray, providing the perfect fodder for an ultra- cosy movie night. So take your pick of our favourite new releases then draw the curtains, turn off your notifications and build a fort out of delicious things to eat – it’s time for a mega movie marathon.

At Time Out, we’re all about exploring the city. But during these dark, chilly winter evenings, a cosy night in can be just as thrilling. So we’ve teamed up with Magnum to help you enjoy some Time In (see what we did there?), and embrace the pleasure of missing out. #POMO

Get a tight grip on your biggest cushion – this reworking of Stephen King’s clown-based horror novel is yelp-inducing stuff. Bill Skarsgård delivers a particularly twisted performance as Pennywise, the not-so-friendly clown who knows your deepest fears.

Ridley Scott’s follow-up to his classic 1982 sci-fi is pretty much unique among late-coming sequels, in that it’s easily as good as the original movie, with Ryan Gosling bringing moody charm aplenty as a replicant-hunting agent known only as ‘K’.

Thor: Ragnarok

Thor: Ragnarok

In his fifth feature-length turn as hammer-slinging superhero Thor, Chris Hemsworth must save his homeland from spider-headed villainess Hela, played by Cate Blanchett. It’s an unexpectedly hilarious film, delivering laughs and eye-blistering action in roughly equal measure.

Loving Vincent

Loving Vincent

If there was an Oscar for straight-up creativity, this story about Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh would be a shoe-in. Every single frame was painstakingly painted by hand in the artist’s style, resulting in a film that’s almost impossibly beautiful. n
