Time Out says

This annual, London-wide event offers the opportunity to view, free of charge, a huge range of buildings of architectural interest which are not normally open to the public. As well as the government buildings, private homes, historic houses, schools, town halls and other buildings open for tours, there are also site visits to ongoing construction projects. Children's activities are a feature at some venues. Admission to the majority of properties is on a turn-up-on-the-day basis. But for the properties that must be booked in advance, the time to act is right now. Bookings open at 10am on Monday August 9 and the hot tickets - to visit Erno Goldfinger's brutalist Trellick Tower, for example, or the concrete and glass BT Tower - will be snapped up in minutes.

The BT Tower on the Sunday is applied for by ballot and places will be drawn at random. To enter the ballot email between Aug 16 and Sept 13. There are a maximum of two tickets per application. Let them know the full names, addresses, email and telephone number of all attendees in the email. Successful applicants will be notified in writing, which will act as the ticket. See website for full details.
