Win a family stay in The Savoy hotel’s LEGO Santa Suite

Yes, you read all of that correctly: one room in the iconic hotel has had a fun festive transformation – and one lucky family of four will stay there

There was a moment when I thought to myself – as I sat on a sofa beside a glittering Christmas tree, wearing a Santa hat and eating milk and cookies surrounded by Christmas decorations made from LEGO bricks – ‘is this really my life?’.

The answer, incredibly, was yes. For one evening, I lived a fantasy in the most gorgeous hotel in London, completely reimagined with LEGO bricks – and one lucky reader and their family will be able to do the same.

But why a LEGO Santa Suite? And why The Savoy? Well, I’m glad you asked. This festive season, The Savoy has undergone a creative makeover, known as the Twelve Rebuilds of Christmas, which is open for the public to visit and runs until January 3 2020. It’s impossible to miss: walk into the glimmering foyer and you’re greeted by the enormous, cheery ‘Dragon-shaped Christmas Tree’; turn around, and you’ll be dazzled by a ‘Princess Rocket Castle’. In total, there are (you guessed it) 12 of these ‘rebuilds’, inspired by each line of ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’, seen through the eyes of children. It’s impossible not to squeal with glee as you search for each one in the hotel (expect everything from sharks to monkeys, even carrots chasing rabbits!).

The Twelve Rebuilds of Christmas forms part of The LEGO Group’s global Rebuild the World campaign, which launched in September. The concept behind it is that each child possesses powerful creativity, which the campaign aims to nurture as a twenty-first-century skill.

Keen to get involved? Anyone – either in The Savoy, at a LEGO store or at home – can build a decoration using the iconic bricks, take a photo and share it on social media using the #BuildtoGive. For every decoration built and shared online, a product will be donated to a child in need in a hospital, a children’s home, or given to underserved communities to play this Christmas.

What’s more, on Sunday December 1 and Sunday December 15, The LEGO Group will be offering special workshops where visitors can become a LEGO Certified Professional (dream job or what?) to get creative with their #BuildtoGive decorations.

Members of the public can come and visit – but the real jewel in the Twelve Rebuilds of Christmas crown is the Santa Suite (AKA, my home for one magical night). And that’s where this competition comes in.

From now until December 16, you can enter to win one night in The LEGO Santa Suite for a family of four. Travel expenses of up to £400 are covered and dinner and breakfast will be included. Honestly, it’s impossible to overstate just how surreal and spectacular spending an evening in St Nick’s quarters is (you can even dress up in his red and white outfit!). And that’s before you even take in the sweeping Thames views or sink into that huge, soft bed.

The competition’s closing date is December 16, so make sure you enter now to be in the draw to win. Be there with bells (or should that be bricks?) on.
