    Sulaiman Al-Fahim

Sulaiman Al-Fahim is suddenly the most talked about man in Premiership Football. As front man to the Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment, which recently agreed to buy Manchester City for £150m he has brought more money to the league than ever before. While Chelsea owner Roman Abramovic is worth some £14 billion, Al-Fahim’s consortium, which is backed by the Abu Dhabi royal family, is thought to be worth £120bn. In the UAE Al-Fahim is known for his property business and for being the face of the Arabic equivalent of 'The Apprentice', 'The Executives'.

You’ve been chosen as one of Time Out’s heroes. What do you think of that?

I feel humble and happy. I understand that Time Out is a zestful magazine that caters to a young readership and to be recognised by them as a hero is a great feeling. It is a satisfying moment when the hard-nosed media professionals in the region honour one for their out-of-the-box thinking, foresight and leadership qualities. Yes, this award will only fire my resolve to renew and redouble my commitment to excellence in all areas of my activities.

    Who are your UAE heroes?

I look up to His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi. His Highness’s paternal presence is a fountainhead of inspiration for me. He is a paradigm of caring, guidance and support. The achievements of His Highness in the last four years in Abu Dhabi are testimonies to his wise and visionary leadership. Equally significant is the role of His Highness Sheikh Tahnoun Bin Zayed in my life. I consider His Highness as my mentor. He is a model of courage, trust, invincibility and determination. At all my turning points I seek solace and advice from the His Highness.

What’s the biggest thing that’s happened here in your own field?

I think I have succeeded in altering the existing brand building in the property sector in the UAE. The property sector here is booming, but only a few are capable of innovative approaches in this field. Keeping that in my mind, the biggest event that has taken place in the real estate sector is the launching of the reality television show, the Hydra Executives. It has instantly managed to get connected with the audience. It catches the buzz in the real estate sector here truthfully and has successfully projected Abu Dhabi as the destination to be, both in terms of capital and residence. Abu Dhabi is THE place to be.

What’s your favourite thing about the UAE?

The thing I love mostly about the Emirates is the synthesis and harmony that has been achieved between modernity and ancient culture. There is no clash or quarrel between the pristine heritage of the UAE and the modern tools that the Emirates have embraced and employed in an effort to meet the contemporary challenges, be they in lifestyles or in philosophies.www.timeoutdubai.com; www.timeoutabudhabi.comGordon Ramsay | Lateefa bint Maktoum | Bernie Ecclestone | Frankie Dettori Sulaiman Al-Fahim
