Coming to the 26 Leake Street Gallery on Friday February 8, ‘Mandela: The Official Exhibition’ explores the events and hardships that shaped Madiba’s life. Infused with scenic recreations and interactive moments, the exhibition is a genuine immersive experience. It’s a chance to get up close and personal with his history – and to discover what led Mandela to become a groundbreaking anti-apartheid activist in South Africa (and across the world).
So what can you expect? Across an extensive 750 square metre space in the historic Leake Street tunnels, the exhibition will display a wealth of unique and private items, from never-seen-before film and photographs to historical artefacts (more than 150 of them, in fact). Plus, you’ll also be able to view personal items donated by the Mandela family and friends, as well as by other museums and archives. Basically, it’s a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of Mandela, and his fight against oppression.
And not only will you be able to look through some of the big man’s possessions and learn all about his efforts for world peace, but you’ll be donating to a great cause. Yep, a slice of the proceeds will be donated to the Mvezo Development Trust – an economic development program based in South Africa’s Eastern Cape.
