Lou Reed Remembered
Sun Dec 15, 9-10pm, BBC4
Maybe you can judge the significance of a recently deceased public figure by the calibre of witnesses to their genius a tribute show can rustle up. By that rationale, Lou Reed continues to rule, even from beyond the grave. This presumably hastily-assembled film has managed Paul Auster, Lenny Kaye, Debbie Harry, Stoke Newington’s very own Thurston Moore and many more. And no wonder; as the recent obituaries pointed out, Lou Reed had a hand in inventing most of the best punk, rock, indie and experimental music of the past 40 years.
No preview material was available, but we’re promised unseen interviews, Velvet Underground reunion clips and even family photos – presumably pre-dating the parent-authorised brush with ECT which led Lou to write ‘Kill Your Sons’. Almost certainly a better Sunday night option than ‘The X-Factor’ final.
